Are All Car Services Created Equal?

Sometimes it seems like there’s always a new bill to pay or another expense to deal with. Then all of a sudden your car is due for a service and you find yourself looking for a nice, cheap option. So you head online to Google ‘cheap car servicing’ and hey presto, $99 sounds good. Hang on, $79 that sounds even better!

Now, because we care about our customers and we care about cars, please make sure you remember these two things: 1) you get what you pay for; and 2) sometimes things are too good to be true…and here’s why.

Save Now, Pay The Price Later

While the cheaper option can seem appealing right now, you may find yourself paying for it later. One of the main reasons is non-Genuine Parts. Chances are, your budget service centre isn’t going to use genuine parts.

As we explored in a previous blog post, using non-genuine parts is risky business that could cause a bunch of problems for your vehicle. And more problems means more money down the track. Despite this, there’s no denying that sometimes people go for the cheaper options without a second thought.

Three More Reasons Why Manufacturer Servicing Is The Way To Go

1. By The Book: The Frankston Toyota Service Centre does it by the book, just as your car deserves. No shortcuts, just a good, proper mechanical service – just as the manufacturer intended for optimal function and vehicle longevity. No “basic” bare minimum servicing that could be as little as a fluids check (in fact, this is often all that is included in a “cut price” service!) Anything else that is needed at the time other than what a mechanic considers a “basic service” is added to the bill (ie. brake pads, belts, lights, wipers or any other repairs that are required, etc). That initial idea of a “cheap service” can fade into the distance pretty quickly.

So – what’s the difference between what cut price service centres want you to believe is a “basic service” to get you in the door and what is included in a proper “scheduled/logbook service”. We take a look further on in this blog

2. Trade-in Price: When it’s time to sell, there’s no doubt that a vehicle that’s had manufacturer servicing its whole life will fetch a higher price than one that has been seen by generic service centres.

3. Trust: There’s not much variation in the cost of high-quality tools and genuine service parts for service centres, and if anything the manufacturer is able to source these items and pay less than another service centre, and the dealership will always use genuine parts.

“Are you just saying this because you want our business?”

Of course we want your business – Frankston Toyota is car-mad and we want your car to be the best it can be! We respect cars and you, their owners, and our goal is to highlight the risks involved with using one of these seemingly cheaper servicing options, so that you can make an informed decision.

Whether you own a Toyota or different make, having your car serviced by the manufacturer will save you money and stress over the course of your car ownership.

Manufacturer VS Generic Service Centre

When it comes to the comparison between manufacturer and generic service centres, many drivers think it won’t make a difference to how their car runs. Others have a friend of a friend who does it cheap. Some think that the manufacturers are just trying to rip them off and that’s why it costs more.

It’s clear that the apparent short term savings of generic service centres aren’t always what they seem, and can result in costly stuff ups down the track.

Let’s take a closer look and break down the costs of a manufacturer service and compare to a generic service centre to find out once and for all why it can seem to cost more to go the manufacturer for a service, even though they pay the least for the genuine parts your vehicle needs.

Remember, an investment in manufacturer servicing is an investment in your vehicle’s future. Save yourself the money and hassle now and opt for taking your car to the people who know it best. Toyota owners, you know where to find us!
